About Me

I started my web development and content creation business in 1998, near the beginning of the internet as we know it, and have worked in the industry continuously through all the changes that followed.

I am a very experienced communicator and team dynamics facilitator, comfortable in both leadership and supporting roles, with high emotional intelligence and well as verbal intelligence, and powerful problem solving and troubleshooting skills. I’m very comfortable communicating by email, various messaging tools, voice-over-ip and videochat.

As a web-specialized copywriter, I emphasize a particular kind of balance. Writing must accomplish these three goals at once; SEO effectiveness, marketing, selling, and visitor persuasion, and a great visitor experience.

For the first, the writing must contain a well-researched set of keywords and keyphrases that have been chosen based on a realistic strategy for search engine results and positioning. Altho native search is not the traffic powerhouse it once was, it still generates a steady flow of website visitors highly likely to be motivated buyers or users of the website’s services. And it does so for years after the initial investment. Search engine effectiveness is a foundation requirement of good web copy and the cornerstone of the way I approach a writing project. .

For the second, web writing and content must guide and persuade the site visitor towards the actions that are the purpose of the website. These actions might be submitting an email address to a lead collection form, or joining and creating a profile, or the ultimate user action, pulling out a credit card and making a purchase. Web visitors have been conditioned to be wary and leave a website quickly if they are feeling hesitation or uncertainty. As a content writer it’s my job to create a story and a sense of value that convinces your visitor to stay on your website, and guides them step by step towards doing what you, the website owner, want them to do.

And for the third, my job as a writer is to make the SEO and the marketing that I just described invisible to your visitors. Good writing will entertain, and reading it will be a pleasure. You want your website to be easy to read, clear, inviting, and a pleasure. It should inform your visitors without boring them, while making it clear how they can get more information from deeper pages of your site if they want it. It should give them a sense that your website is their website, something special they found, they they like to show off and share. Website loyalty is money in the bank for you the owner, and after the SEO and marketing are settled, I am going to make them disappear, and focus on entertaining your visitors, and gaining their loyalty.

Related to the importance of the visitor experience that I just described, is a relatively new critical factor in web content creation, and this is “bounce rate”, or the length of time a visitor spends on your website. The Google algorithm will drop a website’s search result position in the index if it’s bounce rate is higher than it’s competitors, with the logic that if a visitor leaves quickly, they did not find what they were looking for when they went to it under that specific keyword. It’s your job as site owner to keep them on your site, by giving them what they are looking for. And it’s my job as your writer to understand what the keywords on the page mean for your visitor, and what you are offering, and then to actually give them what they need and keep them on your website reading and buying.

I am experienced with Photoshop and comfortable with Illustrator, and can create a broad variety of useful elements of graphic content. I like using Google business suite including Hangouts for team collaboration on content. I can use Skype, Teamviewer, Videoscribe, the Office suite and the open source office toolsets Open Office and Libre Office.

By the way, I am also a WordPress master, and I can build and develop a complete website for you using WordPress as a platform, should you have a need for such a thing.
